Opposite the Village Sign, a village provision shop has stood where Hickling Stores now is for more than a century.

J.W. Martin ran it for many years, then his son J.L. Martin (Jack) and later various owners until the Stores and its Post Office closed in 2005.

The yard next to the Stores was known as Martin’s Yard, and one of the  - now demolished - cottages in Martin’s Yard was where our “Voice”,  Huggie Gibbs, grew up.
