Voices of Hickling:  Lawson Cottage

Hickling “Voice” David Osborne’s parents moved to Hickling in 1939, and they took over the newsagents shop in Stubb Road.

David’s father, Ralph, was also a basket maker.  This work had to take a back seat to running the shop, but he still carried on making baskets in the outbuildings behind the shop.

No longer a shop, Osborne’s  is now a bed and breakfast business known as Lawson Cottage (left).

We are actively looking for pictures of Lawson Cottage in its earlier life as a shop:  if you have any

that you would be happy for us to use, please drop us an email.  Thank you.
