Voices of Hickling:  Osborne’s Shop

Hickling “Voice” David Osborne’s parents moved to Hickling in 1939, and they took over the newsagents shop in Stubb Road.  David talks about his early life in Hickling living “over the shop” here.

David’s father, Ralph, was also a basket maker.  This work had to take a back seat to running the shop, but he still carried on making baskets in the outbuildings behind the shop.

No longer a shop, Osborne’s  is now a bed and breakfast business known as Lawson Cottage (left).

We are actively looking for pictures of Lawson Cottage in its earlier life as a shop:  if you have any

that you would be happy for us to use, please drop us an email.  Thank you.
