Voices of Hickling: The Village Blacksmiths

Above was one of two blacksmiths in the centre of the village - on the Greyhound Corner. The forge was in the low building nearest us in the photo, and the Blacksmith and his family lived in the attached cottage.
The other village forge was situated next to the old White Horse Pub, and is now known as Forge House. In our picture (right), Forge House is well-fronted with trees and shrubs, and the old White Horse pub is seen beyond.
