Mervyn Gibbs - pictured right - was taken on by Bernard’s father when he was about 60.

In his early days he had been a cobbler, but he found he didn’t like sitting around so moved to a new life working on the farm.

He became a great friend to Bernard, who thought him “an interesting old fellow”…

Mervyn was the father of another our “Voices”, Gwen Bullock.
