SPORT and PASTIMES:

Page 1

“Sport and Pastimes” features a wide range of activities carried on by the villagers, and many of these took place in their “correct” season.

Football was very important in Hickling - at one time there were three teams!

Fishing, darts and painting and shooting were just some of the other activities that were carried out.  As well as these, of course, were swimming in the Broad in summer and skating on it in the winter:   you will find more about these in the “summertime” and “wintertime” pages.

Rabbiting, ratting and ferreting were other pastimes, and you will find more of these in the “Farming” pages and in the “Broad and Marsh” pages.
