Conservation is important to John and his son James (pictured right outside Roland Green’s mill aka the dipping place), and they joined various schemes to help  with this.  

They signed an “Environmentally Sensitive Area” agreement, which brought in some grants and as a result the way farming was carried out on the marshes  was changed forever.
