Harry was born in 1940, so his memories of the war are not very strong.    


He remembers bombs falling on the marshes, an aeroplane coming down in one of the nearby fields and a piece of shrapnel through his parents’ bedroom window…

Harry  only remembers a little of the war…

This is the piece of shrapnel that went through the bedroom window frame.


For its size, it is very heavy!  The light brown areas on the side of the piece (near the pen point, used to show the size of the piece) are bits of wood from the window frame.
