WARTIME and

NATIONAL SERVICE:

Page 1

Our Voices were all either children or young adults during the war and after, during National Service , and as a result they have many memories between them.

Some of them remember bombs being dropped nearby as the enemy pilots dumped the rest of their loads to let them speed up, to watching the planes flying over, to crashes in the village.

The older ones and their parents and siblings took part in the war - and not all of them came back, or came back severely damaged.

We also hear of the Hickling Home Guard and their searchlight, the Hickling Hospital and how one of the Voices viewed his time in National Service as a waste of time!

And, indeed, lots of other memories…
