Mervyn (Gibbs), Gwen’s father sold his motor bike during the war and converted the garage at Hall Cottages into into a dugout air raid shelter.

She and her brother “scooted” into it one day when they heard bombing in Stalham.  The planes involved dropped their spare bombs at Horsey before they went back to Germany.
