Mervyn (Gibbs), Gwen’s father joined the Hickling Fire Service and as a result was called away, on occasion as far as Norwich, to deal with fires.  This  left Gwen alone with her mother with enemy planes flying over.

This memory is of incendiary bombs dropped on the Council Houses in High Hill.  Mr and Mrs Cator were in bed when an incendiary came through the roof of their house and when it fell on her, it broke her arm…
