Werner was a prisoner of war held at Barton. He later mover to stay in a room at Sam Harmer’s house in Ingham.
Werner’s mother wrote to him to tell him not to go back to Germany - “It isn’t worth it” - and so he stayed in England, at one stage working in one of the cafe’s at Sea Palling.
