HICKLING in the 1920s:

Page 1

The village had plenty of talent and above all it had some super singers, among them Gwen Turner, Marjorie Myhill and Doris Chapman.

On the Stubb Road we had a wooden Village Hall;  this was used by the Women’s Institute and a strongly supported Mens’ Club.  We had a strong Bowls Team of both men and women. This lovely Hall was built and sponsored by Herbert Edgell,  a retired wine merchant, who came to Hickling in 1908 and settled with his wife Laura in a large house on Hill Common overlooking the Broad.

He and his wife were great benefactors to Hickling.

They built and supported the Rest Homes

for the elderly and the Doctor’s Surgery.
